Nurture strengths, heal wounds, remove obstacles, and live your best life.
Thatcher Dynamic Counseling
Sometimes life leaves us feeling stuck, and we need help uncovering new paths toward healing, growth, and change. Drawing from a variety of evidence-based approaches, I tailor our work to honor your individuality—helping you heal from past traumas and moving beyond limiting patterns into more fulfilling ways of living.
I’m Julie Thatcher, MA, LMHCA, and I bring compassion, insight, and thoughtful curiosity to this work. Before becoming a therapist, I spent many years in helping roles—as an educator, advisor, student support coordinator, academic administrator, and research administrator. I am also deeply familiar with the practices, cultures and communities of mutual-support (12-step) recovery programs. I work with both adults and teens facing a wide range of concerns.
Balancing warmth with humor and reflective engagement, I create a safe and supportive space where you are heard, valued, and respected. Together, we will build on your unique strengths in a collaborative journey toward meaningful change.
I am currently accepting new clients and offer sessions both virtually and in my West Seattle office.
Evidence-Based Methods
At Thatcher Dynamic Counseling, I draw from proven therapeutic approaches—each grounded in research and tailored to your needs. Here are some of the methods that may support your goals:
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
A trauma-informed therapy that helps the brain reprocess distressing memories using bilateral stimulation (such as guided eye movements). EMDR can reduce emotional intensity and help reframe negative self-beliefs. It’s especially effective for trauma, anxiety, and past overwhelming experiences.
Person-Centered Therapy
This approach centers on empathy, trust, and authenticity. You set the pace; we provide a nonjudgmental space where you can safely explore your emotions and experiences. Healing happens through connection—not correction.
Cognitive-Based Approaches
These methods focus on the connection between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. By identifying unhelpful thinking patterns and building healthier perspectives, cognitive approaches can support change in areas like anxiety, depression, and stress.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
DBT combines mindfulness with concrete skills for managing emotions, improving communication, and tolerating distress. Originally developed for people experiencing strong emotional swings, DBT tools can help anyone build more balance in daily life.
